PRIMARY COORDINATOR

A huge ‘thank you’ to our Parents Committee and the many parent helpers who organised the Father’s Day at school by running a stall and an afternoon tea as well as fun activities which made it enjoyable for everyone. The dads all had a great time and the kids were full of excitement to watch their dads participate in the various activities.

Enrolments

2020 Foundation Enrolments are now open. We are also taking enrolments for Yr1-Yr 6. If you have a child who is ready to start Foundation class next year or any prospective families with children in Yr1-Yr 6 please inform them to contact us for any further information or to arrange a school tour.

Badminton Tournament

This year we decided to send a team of students to the Interschool Badminton Tournament organised by Carson Sports at the Shepparton Stadium and we are extremely pleased to announce that our students received third place in Division 2. It was a great effort by the year 5/6 students, Ava Barker, Hassan Alshamarry, Hussain Alshamarry, Ibrahim Mansuri and Mariam Almosawy considering they practised playing the sport only for a few weeks at school. We hope to see more students participating next year.

Athletics Carnival

The school will be holding its ‘Annual Athletics Carnival’ on Friday 18th October, at the Athletics oval (Mc Ewen Reserve), next to the sports stadium on Numurkah Road, Shepparton, from 10:15 am to 3:00 pm.

Please keep this date in mind and you are welcome to come along with family and friends dressed in your child’s house colour and cheer for your child’s team.

Conflict Resolution

Growing up can be at times challenging i.e. learning social skills, being accepted by friends especially starting a new school and dealing with conflicts. The skills needed for resolving conflict effectively may not be simple. They involve managing your feelings, understanding others, communicating effectively, and making decisions. The lack of these skills can at times result in altercations, misunderstanding and conflict between your child and another child.

Our School Values of Respect, Responsibility, Honesty and Resilience guide the conversations we have with children when they do not make the best decisions about their behaviour. Below is one of the few strategies that will be posted in the coming newsletters to deal with conflicts that we should be practising with the children at school and at home.

Tip #1: Learning to Manage Strong Emotions: While children have the right to feel strong emotions such as anger and frustration, it is important that they learn that yelling or being physically hurtful or intimidating does not help to resolve conflict. Helping children learn simple strategies for remaining calm, such as taking a deep breath or stopping and counting to ten is an important part of the process of effective conflict resolution.

Please continue to support us in discussing about the above strategy with your child to make our school a safe, happy place and empower our students to become critical thinkers and socially responsible individuals motivated by moral values.

Have a safe and restful break,

Regards,
